What this calculator does

The Dividend Yield Calculator expresses annual dividend income as a percentage of a security's market price. It can help compare income yield across investments with different share prices.

How to use the calculator step by step

Enter the annual dividend per share and current share price. If dividends are paid quarterly, convert them to an annual total unless the page performs that conversion for you.

How the calculation works

Dividend yield equals annual dividend per share divided by share price, multiplied by 100. A stock paying 2 per year with a price of 50 has a dividend yield of 4%.

Worked example and scenario testing

If a share price falls from 50 to 40 while the annual dividend remains 2, the calculated yield rises from 4% to 5%. That higher yield does not necessarily mean the investment became safer or more attractive.

How to interpret your result

Dividend yield measures current income relative to price. It does not measure total investment return, because share-price changes and dividend growth or cuts also matter.

Accuracy, assumptions, and limitations

Future dividends are not guaranteed. Companies can reduce or suspend payments, and prices can change quickly after the data used in the calculation.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not confuse dividend yield with total return or assume a very high yield is automatically favorable. A falling share price can mechanically increase the yield.

Privacy and browser-based calculations

Only dividend and market-price values are required. No brokerage or shareholder account information should be entered.
