What this calculator does

The GPA Calculator estimates grade point average from course grades and credit weights. It can be used to check a current term, test future grade scenarios, or understand how a heavily weighted course affects an overall average.

How to use the calculator step by step

Enter each course grade or grade-point value together with the course credit or weight. Make sure all courses use the same grading scale. Then calculate the weighted average.

How the calculation works

Weighted GPA equals the sum of each course grade point multiplied by its credits, divided by total credits. For example, grades of 4.0 in a 3-credit course and 3.0 in a 4-credit course produce 24 weighted points across 7 credits, giving about 3.43.

Worked example and scenario testing

Suppose you take four 3-credit classes with grade points of 4.0, 3.7, 3.0, and 2.7. Because the credits are equal, the GPA is the simple average, 3.35. If one class carries more credits, it has more influence on the result.

How to interpret your result

A GPA is a weighted summary, not a description of every individual grade. Schools may apply different rules for repeated courses, pass/fail classes, honors weighting, or transfer credits.

Accuracy, assumptions, and limitations

The calculator cannot guarantee an official institutional GPA unless its grading scale and credit rules match your school exactly.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not combine percentage grades directly with a 4.0 scale unless they have first been converted according to the correct institutional policy.

Privacy and browser-based calculations

Only course grades and credits are needed. Avoid entering student numbers or other identifying information.
