What this calculator does

The TDEE Calculator estimates total daily energy expenditure, which combines resting energy needs with the additional energy used for ordinary movement, work, exercise, and other daily activity.

How to use the calculator step by step

Enter the requested personal measurements and choose an activity level that represents a typical week. Calculate the estimate and compare it with real weight trends over time before making major nutrition adjustments.

How the calculation works

TDEE is commonly estimated by calculating BMR and multiplying it by an activity factor. For example, a BMR of 1,700 calories multiplied by an activity factor of 1.55 produces an estimated TDEE of about 2,635 calories per day.

Worked example and scenario testing

If estimated TDEE is 2,400 calories and average intake is close to 2,400 for several weeks while weight remains stable, the estimate may be reasonably close to actual maintenance. If weight consistently changes, real maintenance is likely different.

How to interpret your result

TDEE is an average estimate, not a fixed amount burned every single day. Energy expenditure can vary with exercise, step count, occupation, sleep, temperature, food intake, and changes in body weight.

Accuracy, assumptions, and limitations

Activity multipliers are broad categories and can overestimate or underestimate real activity. The calculation cannot directly account for every workout, metabolic adaptation, medical condition, or variation in body composition.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most frequent mistake is choosing an activity category based only on exercise while ignoring an otherwise sedentary day. Avoid adjusting calories aggressively after only a few days of body-weight data.
